Per title 5, colleges must provide an appeals process for all students to challenge their placements. If a student refuses to take the test, then colleges must have a local policy to address that. Students who refuse assessment may also forfeit priority enrollment. In addition, at some colleges, students are placed into the lowest basic skills English and Math courses if they do not take the assessment. The CCCCO recommends that students who are placed using multiple measures, one of which may be the test, is that the student should be offered the higher of the two placements.
