Does my college have to use the CAI Common Assessment for placement?

Yes. Title 5 requires that colleges that use assessment tests must use the CAI to receive funding from the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP). Each school will, as always, be given local control over when and how the test is administered and where to place each student based on their assessment results and multiple measures. In lieu of the CAI, colleges may choose to use only multiple measures, (i.e. High school transcript, SAT, ACT and non-cognitive measures to place students).
