Nonbinary gender option not loading into SIS (Colleague)

I was wondering if any other Colleague schools have had trouble downloading applications with the new Non-binary gender response.  It seems that the gender fields in Colleague are hard coded and we are having trouble getting the applications to come in systematically.  Any recommendations?

There are a few things to think about here. Getting it to load will mean either modifying the incoming data, or adding the non-binary classification to your SIS. Eventually you will probably have to do the latter (its a legal alternative in the US, and many individual states have additional requirements). If you want to modify the incoming data, you can use a simple mapper in your format file, or its also likely that colleague implements some kind of conversion option during import, in which case you could convert it to whatever unknown value you use. The advantage of using an in-SIS conversion would be that your download files would contain the correct value, so if you ever needed to go back and import those, you could easily do that (there would be other ways to determine the original entry as well). You probably should also ask colleague about their plans for implementing the new value. Most SIS's will need to figure out how to do that relatively soon.

I appreciate your feedback.  I will share your ideas with the IT team at my college.  In previous discussions with them it sounds like they are thinking along the same lines.
