Non-Spam Applications Flagged As Spam By Spam Filter

Hello, after the Spam Filter was recently updated, El Camino College (and many other CCCApply colleges) noticed that a large number (100-200+ applications) of non-spam applications were incorrectly flagged as spam by the Spam Filter, and were not downloaded.  The issue was addressed and fixed; but, now it is happening again.  Every day this week, we've noticed that many (over 100) non-spam applications have not been downloaded because the Spam Filter has incorrectly marked them as spam.  Can this issue be re-investigated and fixed again?   Thank you!

I'm receiving daily emails from my users reporting the same.  The frustration increases as Fall registration ramps up.

Recent Issues with the CCCApply Spam Filter - Wednesday, June 12, 2019

Dear Colleague:

We are aware of a number of recent issues with CCCApply related to the spam filter system, which was implemented to help colleges combat fraudulent applications. A major update to the model used by the spam filter system was deployed on May 10th. In the weeks after this deployment we noticed that the system was generating a high volume of mistakes.

After analysis and multiple attempts at deploying other solutions, on June 7 we rolled the model used by the spam filter back to the model used before May 10th. We have been observing the results of this model continually since the rollback and the pattern has normalized. At this time, we consider the spam filter system to be stable to the same standards that it displayed in the previous deployment between September 29, 2018, and May 10th, 2019.

We continue to analyze the issues that were seen between May 10th and June 7 and will continue to work on improvements to the spam filter system for future deployments. We regret any negative impact related to the recent update that was rolled back and appreciate all contact from the colleges that informed us of the issues they encountered.

Questions and concerns related to this incident may be directed to Patty Donohue,  CCCApply Product Manager at

Thank you.
