Paul,
I believe the Type and Sector relates to whether it's a High School or College and whether it's Public or Private.  However
I have a better source for for viewing the School Tables.  This source is automatically updated when we internally update the school tables.

It's in the Report Center, called School Reports
Found in the Public Reports folder.
To go there:
Click the View Menu at the top of the Report Center
Select Repository
Look for the School Reports under the Public directory.

You'll be able to lookup by several options:
Colleges by State
High Schools by State
Lookup by CDS Code
Lookup by CEEB Code
Lookup by City and State
Lookup by Name and State

Denise,
I found the schools report but when I search for some of our high schools  in our area in the High Schools by State,  nothing is found.  Sample public High schools:
San Clemente
Laguna Hills
Capistrano Valley

Please let me know what I am doing wrong.

Thanks
Joyce

The default report in teh respository lists only schools with "Los" in the name. You can modify those parameters using the 'options' icon in the upper right.

Sorry, my bad. I thought you were using the lookup by name and state report. I do see the schools you're referring to in both the qa and production report center using the high schools by state report. How many pages does your default report contain? And I assume you're using the 'search report' dialog at the top of the report page?

What a great question!

I checked in the database for schools in San Clemente, and there were 8 high schools listed.
Now if I use the School Lookup by City and State, the first report is a large list.

The next step is to click on the "Options" icon (in the upper right hand corner).
There you will be able to narrow the search to a specific City and State.
If you enter: Clemente as the City, you will see the same list that is in the school database.

Below is a graphic to help you find the "Option" Icon.

I was able to find Laguna Hills High School.  It has a CDS code of  30736353030244.

The reason I was looking for the code is because we received an application for a student from Laguna Hills High school, yet when I reviewed his Application Report the CDS code comes up as 600050 (Attended a High school in CA) even though the High School Name field shows Laguna Hills High School.  Why?

I have several schools that are in the dataabase but are not returning the proper name but are kicked to this code.  Please let me know why this is occurring.

Thank you.

If a student chooses the 'my school not in this list' option from the application interface and then enters the high school name in by hand, you would get the state code instead of the actual CDS (the system doesnt think it has the school in its table).

You can verify whether this happened by looking at the hs_not_listed field for that student's application.  If it's true, they entered the school in manually.

I am looking at the application report.  The "HS Name" shows "Laguna Hills High School"  is there another place that shows hs_not_listed?  Sorry.

The default application report does not appear to include this field. You can create an ad-hoc view (and/or report) to include it (I verified it was set for some of our own test applications where the high school was entered manually).

Mike, great suggestion.  I'll look into adding it to the Public version.  Already, I see the value of this community support site!

Hi. I am following up here because my additional question is relevant to the discussion that already went on in this thread.

We have noticed that if the applicant chooses a country other than US for either high school or college that the 'not listed' fields will remain false, even though the school name is filled in by hand. This probably makes sense as the documentation for hs_country field, for example, mentions that if the country is other than the US, the school finder functionality is disabled altogether (and these not listed fields seem to be specifically related to the school finder functionality).

However, it does seem somewhat inconsistent to fill in a value manually in the US case and have the fields set to true, while doing the same in the non-US case results in the opposite behavior (especially as there are some foreign institutions in the school table, though they obviously dont ever show up in a school finder). Can CCC confirm that this is the intended behavior? If so, might it be helpful to update the description of these fields in the documentation to indicate that they only are valid for US schools? One might even imagine that the fields should be set for non-US schools in general, though at this point I expect that would cause more harm than good. :-)

thx.

Hi Merrie,

Where do I get the list of CDS code for California state colleges? I went to the https://cccnext.jira.com/wiki/spaces/PD/pages/67043586/Data+Dictionaries, I can't find the list of CD codes for California state universities especially Monterey Bay (CSUMB).
Thanks,

Min
